The book highlights the crucial importance of sega tipik in the social and cultural architecture of Mauritius. This music, alongside the Creole language, served as a means of resistance against slavery and a tool for resilience against various adversities. Despite the challenges posed by modernity and marginalization by other musical forms, sega tipik has endured. In 2016, the inscription of sega tipik on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list led to the creation of the Association of Sega Tipik Practitioners. This organization aims to preserve and promote this rich tradition for current and future generations. This documentary book, which brings together stories, lyrics, songs, photographs, and videos, pays tribute to the guardians of this tradition and honors the memory of those who have contributed to its intergenerational transmission.
